A countryside trip to Rhebokskloof in Paarl

Looking for a relaxing breakfast or lunch spot? In the mood for some wine tasting? Well, I stumbled across the delightful Rhebokskloof restaurant situated just outside Paarl recently, and it was really a treat. Whether it’s a leisurely breakfast or some wine and a hearty burger, they’ve got something for you. And whether you’re a singleton, a couple or a family with kids you’ll be perfectly content!

The estate

The Rhebokskloof wine estate is situated in the Paarl valley and suits all age groups. It’s child-friendly but still perfectly eloquent for couples. It’s perfectly nestled between the granite hills of the Paarl Rock Mountains and is renowned for it’s top quality wines. The restaurant is Cape Dutch style with both an indoor and outdoor section. To be honest, the indoor section is a bit more traditional and I’d rather recommend sitting outside to enjoy the wonderfully fresh breeze and beautiful scenery.

Rhebokskloof is also available for private functions and weddings. They have two separate venues, with the larger one accommodating up to 350 people. So if you’ve been thinking of a tranquil vineyard wedding – maybe this is a venue option you can consider. The willow and oak trees surrounding the grounds make the most gorgeous backdrop.

Food

We actually wanted to go for lunch but unfortunately it was too early so we ended up having breakfast. We were on our way to our gorgeous Airbnb for a short getaway, so wanted to get on the road as soon as possible. However, breakfast ended up being absolutely delicious and we were very happy with our choice.  We both chose the Rhebok breakfast, as we were in the mood for a hearty, more traditional brekkie. The Eggs Benedict looked delicious too!

Rhebokskloof Wine Estate Paarl topknotch breakfast menu

The Rhebok breakfast costs R108 and includes eggs, bacon, beef sausage, tomato, chips, toast and jam. The portion size was generous and was beautifully presented. It’s definitely more traditionally presented, but feels very hearty and farmstyle. The service was really great as well- all the staff made an effort to engage with us and were chatty. It was a little cold when we were there, so they offered to move us inside and start a fire for us – which we happily accepted!

If you’re going for lunch or dinner, they have a great selection as well! From burgers, to pork roast to steak – they have a little something to suit various different palettes. I’m desperate to go back to try the pork belly, so watch this space! In fact, they actually launched a new menu on October 1st, so I think a returning trip is definitely in order.

Something to note though is that the menu is quite limited for vegetarians. The only option I noticed was a vegetarian quiche. So, in that regard the menu could use some additions.

Things to do at Rhebokskloof

Rhebokskloof is actually a hub of outdoor activities! They have five different cycling / running trails developed by Hero Adventure Trails.  Ranging from 5km to 35km, the trails at Rhebokskloof have been developed to cater for everyone from kiddies to even the seasoned athlete. They also offer kiddies parties, quad biking, horse riding (All at additional costs, of course!)

Rhebokskloof Wine Selection

Visitors will be pleasantly surprised at the wine offering here as well as the differences in price accommodating the different price brackets. Unsurprisingly, Rhebokskloof have won several awards for their wine. You’re welcome to enjoy a lazy afternoon doing some wine tasting and purchase a few bottles before your exit. Tastings costs R25, and you can taste any five wines. The grapes come from the estate itself, as well as other farms in Paarl and surrounding regions. We picked up their 2016 Flatrock for only R65 per bottle. Apparently anything from their Flagship range is a must and their Vineyard Selection Shiraz 2016 has won some awards as well!

Overall Impression

Stumbling across Rhebokskloof was a delightful accident. That’s definitely something I love about the Entertainer is how it helps us to find fantastic little gems. Like I mentioned, the interior decor is more traditional than some other more modern wine farms. However, the outside area is simply delightful, especially on a sunny day! The food portions were generous and everything was cooked really well. I’ll definately update you guys if I go back for a lunch or dinner and what that was like. I’d highly recommend going on a day when you can sit outside and enjoy a leisurely meal. It’s especially affordable if you have the Entertainer app.
